Selective Sharp Wound Debridement Certification (CSWD-C)
The Selective Sharp Wound Debridement Certification (CSWD-C) course is a premier national training program designed to fulfill the educational needs of nurses across various clinical environments. This course offers a thorough examination of Conservative and Selective Sharp Debridement techniques and their application in effective wound management. Participants will engage in hands-on skills competency sessions, providing the practical experience necessary to operate as a Certified Conservative/Selective Sharp Wound Debridement Nurse. By completing this course, attendees will enhance their knowledge, skills, and confidence, ultimately leading to improved patient care and outcomes.
Course Objectives
- Define conservative/selective sharp wound debridement and its role in wound management
- Identify the indications and benefits of conservative/selective sharp wound debridement
- Describe different types of wound debridement techniques and their applications
- Understand the anatomy and physiology of the integumentary system, including functional relationships with structures like tendons, nerves, and blood vessels
- Discuss the indications and contraindications of conservative/selective sharp wound debridement
- Prepare effectively for the conservative/selective sharp wound debridement procedure
- Learn post-procedure documentation practices for conservative/selective sharp debridement
- Follow essential safety precautions related to sharp debridement procedures
- Demonstrate effective conservative sharp wound debridement techniques (classroom format only)
- Review CSWD documentation and associated CPT codes for accurate billing practices
- Differentiate between selective and non-selective debridement methods
- Gain familiarity with all necessary instruments and supplies for sharp debridement
- Understand and manage pain associated with sharp debridement procedures, including effective strategies for pain control
Scope of Practice
- Licensed Nurses: This program is intended for Registered Nurses (RN), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN), and Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN) specializing in wound care.
- Role and Expertise: Conservative/selective sharp wound debridement requires advanced judgment and proficiency developed through specialized training in wound management principles and techniques.
- Supervision Requirements: This skill requires clinical supervision or delegation by a licensed medical provider.
- Practice Standards: Licensed nurses performing conservative/selective sharp wound debridement must prioritize patient safety and adhere to the legal scope of practice, following all federal, state, and local laws, as well as the policies, procedures, and guidelines of their employing healthcare institution or practice setting.
Course Format
This eight (8) hour program is available both online and in-person, with hands-on skills competency for online participants provided through a qualified preceptor.
OPTION #1: One-Day Onsite/Classroom WorkshopThis format includes lectures, interactive demonstrations, and hands-on skills training, offering participants direct engagement with instructors and practical application of techniques.
OPTION #2: One-Day Virtual Workshop / Live Session / Web-BasedThis online option provides lectures, interactive learning, and visual skills demonstrations by the instructor, creating an engaging virtual learning experience with real-time feedback and interaction.
